In1912, the Sisters of St. Josephof Tiptonaccepteda challengenoone
else inKokomohadbeenwilling to accept: to build a hospital that
would deliver exceptional healthcare, close to home.
With very little funds and no experience in building a hospital,
these strong and faithful women converted a dilapidated
homestead into a serviceable 12-bed hospital. They welcomed
the first patient on February 6, 1913.
This year we mark the 100
th
anniversary of St.Joseph Hospital.
Over the years, much has changed. The original staff of 12
Sisters – 10 who provided nursing and two who cooked – has
evolved into a team of nearly 1,000 highly skilled healthcare
professionals. What hasn’t changed in the past 100 years are
the hearts of the physicians, nurses and staff who care for our
patients. We remain committed to the mission of our founders:
