President’s Message
Saluting 100 of the Best –
With Room for More
O
ne hundred companies being honored as Best
Places to Work in Indiana. That’s a nice round
number and nearly triple the 35 organizations that
earned the award in the inaugural year of the
program in 2006.
But we want more! We know that there are many truly
outstanding organizations throughout the state that simply
have not applied. The more that seek the honor, the more that
will be recognized. While Best Companies Group reports that
about half the businesses that apply nationally meet the Best Places criteria, that
percentage is higher in our state. There is no cap on the number of honorees.
I’ll place the challenge now. There would be nothing better than seeing 120 – or more
– companies basking in the Best Places to Work limelight in 2014. If you made the
list this time around, why not encourage others to realize the benefits of participation.
If you’ve not taken the Best Places plunge, there’s no better time than the present (all
companies, whether on the list or not, benefit from the valuable feedback received
from the anonymous employee survey and best practices comparisons) – or at least
August, when applications open for the next go-round.
The No. 1’s – repeat winners Hollingsworth and Zivitz, as well as Microsoft; and
newcomers Somerset CPAs and Sikich – deserve special recognition. But all 100
companies on the list are winners. You will enjoy learning more about them in our
66-page tribute.
For the ninth consecutive issue (and many more to come), we feature
Indiana Vision
2025
. This time it’s the Superior Infrastructure driver.
The term intermodal hub may not mean much at first glance, but it will dramatically
improve the connections between Indiana companies and their Asian customers. In
addition, some of the alternative fuels that have been part of the discussion for years
are now becoming reality. Finally, we look at energy developments that deal with
nuclear reactors, expanding transmission capacity and conserving power.
