Awards

Despite entering a limited number of competitions each year, BizVoice® has now earned 62 national and state awards over the past 12 years.

The latest honors, in addition to a Grand Award for writing for “Let’s Make a Business Deal” in the 2012 APEX competition, include a Pinnacle Award for best newsletter/magazine from the Public Relations Society of America (Hoosier chapter) and six awards (see below) in the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists “Best in Indiana Journalism” competition for work completed in 2011.

First-place SPJ honors:

• Rebecca Patrick and Tom Schuman in Business Reporting for the five-story entry of "Let's Make a (Business) Deal". Stories included a focus on deals involving the Colts' move to Indianapolis, different paths to growth for Franklin Electric and Herff Jones, information and analysis from authorities in the "business deal" world and a one-on-one interview with Mickey Maurer,  leading dealmaker in both the private and public sectors.
• Symone C. Skrzycki in the Headline Writing-News category. The three headlines that combined for one entry: Hoping for a Home Run; Social 'Twilight' Zones; and Stuck In Neutral.

Additional awards: Second place for Schuman in Education Coverage-Jamie Merisotis; third places for Patrick in Medical/Science Reporting-health care roundtable and Matt L. Ottinger for Education Coverage-Mark Emmert; and an honorable mention for Ottinger in Headline Writing-Features.

In April 2013, Matt Ottinger and Symone Skrzycki earned a first-place headline writing award in the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists “Best in Indiana Journalism” competition.
